For about 28 years, Wisconsin contracted Envirotest for emissions testing. On June 30, 2012, Envirotest's nine test stations closed.

Our state's new vendor is SysTech International LLC of Murray, Utah. Scott Selbach, DOT's supervisor of the vehicle emissions inspection program, states the new system will be less expensive."This will provide greater options and convenience for customers, including the ability to have an emissions test performed while their vehicle is in for an oil change or other service, " Selbach said. Independent testing facilities are compensated $2 per test.

The program covers vehicles in Sheboygan, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee and Washington counties.
